Grand Valley State University (GVSU) secured an eighth-place finish at the 45th annual Midwest Classic, amassing a total of 75.5 points. The event, held in Indianapolis, featured some of the nation's top wrestling teams, with Parkside emerging victorious with 147 points. Central Oklahoma and Glenville State followed closely behind.

In individual performances, four GVSU wrestlers placed within the top eight. Junior Carter Blough led the team with a second-place finish in the 285-pound category. Blough's journey to the finals included a notable semifinal victory over Lloyd Reynolds from Parkside before falling to Ryan Herman from Maryville in the title match.

Junior Josh Kenny achieved fourth place at 174 pounds after a series of competitive matches, including a win against Lawson Losee of Upper Iowa and a loss to Hayden Pummel of Glenville State in the semifinals.

Senior Jak Keller secured sixth place at 133 pounds. Keller advanced to the semifinals but was defeated by Christian Davis from Lander and later forfeited his final match due to medical reasons.

Redshirt freshman Brayden Mirjavadi finished seventh at 184 pounds. Despite an early loss to Garrett Wells of Central Oklahoma, Mirjavadi bounced back with victories over Peyton Lemon and Zeke Waltz.

Maclain Morency competed in the 157-pound category but was eliminated after losing to Sean Howk of Southwest Minnesota State in sudden victory during consolation round five.

The Midwest Classic served as another step for GVSU as it continues its return as a varsity sport following a lengthy hiatus.
