Grand Valley State faces Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan in GLIAC home games

The Grand Valley State men's basketball team is set to begin the 2025 calendar year with two home games in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). The Lakers will face Michigan Tech on Thursday, January 2, at 8:00 PM, followed by a match against Northern Michigan on Saturday, January 4, at 3:00 PM. The latter game will also serve as Alumni Day.

Grand Valley State currently holds a season record of 6-4 and remains undefeated in the GLIAC with a 2-0 record. Despite closing out 2024 with losses to Illinois Springfield and Indianapolis, the Lakers are averaging 80 points per game. They have achieved a shooting percentage of 47.5% from the field and 39% from beyond the arc. Their rebounding average stands at over 40 per game, ranking them third in the conference.

Kaden Brown is leading the Lakers' scoring efforts with an average of 13.3 points per game. Brown's performance includes a career-high of 33 points and eight three-pointers in a single game. William Dunn contributes an average of 13.1 points per game and recently scored 21 points against Illinois Springfield. Jalen Charity is averaging 11.4 points with a shooting percentage of 60% from the field, while Mason Docks has provided significant support with an average of 9.6 points and leads the GLIAC with both his total assists (49) and assist-to-turnover ratio (4.9).

Michigan Tech enters these matchups with a record of 7-3 overall and shares Grand Valley's unbeaten GLIAC status at 2-0. The Huskies are second in the conference for scoring, averaging 81.5 points per game, while leading in field goal percentage at 51.9%. Marcus Tomashek spearheads their offense with an impressive average of 24.1 points per game.

Northern Michigan brings an overall record of 8-2 into the new year and similarly holds a perfect conference record at this point in time. They are on a five-game winning streak that includes defeating No.25 Upper Iowa by three points.
