The Grand Valley State men's basketball team experienced a setback on Saturday, falling 78-70 to Northern Michigan. This result places the Lakers at an even 6-6 for the season and 2-2 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
During the game, GVSU shot 41% from the field and 43% from beyond the arc. In comparison, Northern Michigan achieved a shooting percentage of 43% from the field, with a three-point accuracy of 38%, and they excelled at free throws with an impressive 85%. The Wildcats also dominated in rebounding, outmatching GVSU by a margin of 39-30 overall and leading in offensive rebounds by one.
Kaden Brown was a standout performer for GVSU, contributing 21 points while hitting eight of his seventeen shots, including four successful three-pointers. Jalen Charity supported with fourteen points and added four rebounds to his performance. Trevon Gunter and William Dunn each contributed eight points to their team's effort. Cam Regnerus led defensively with seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
For Northern Michigan, Dylan Kuehl matched Brown's scoring output with twenty-one points on seven-for-thirteen shooting from the field and four three-pointers. Kuehl also contributed defensively with four rebounds and three steals. Sam Privet scored seventeen points alongside eight rebounds, while Julien Smith added fifteen points to Northern Michigan's tally.
Looking ahead, GVSU will embark on a four-game road trip starting next week. Their first match is against Ferris State in Big Rapids on Thursday, January 9th at 7:30 PM. Following that game, they will face Lake Superior State in Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, January 11th at the same time.
