Grand Valley State University has appointed Mike Korman as the interim head coach for its women's soccer team. This decision comes after the previous head coach, Katie Hultin, accepted a position at Illinois in December.
Keri Becker, the Director of Athletics at Grand Valley State, expressed gratitude towards Korman for taking on this responsibility during the transition period. "I would like to thank Mike Korman for stepping up into this role as we transition to a new head coach," said Becker. "He has been a valuable member of our coaching staff and is well prepared to lead our team until we name a new head coach."
Korman joined Grand Valley State in 2024 as the goalkeeper coach and played a key role in guiding the Lakers to win the Midwest Regional Championship. The team ended their season with an impressive record of 15-1-8 and reached the elite eight in the NCAA Tournament. Under Korman's mentorship, goalkeeper Cailynn Junk was honored as GLIAC goalkeeper of the year and earned first-team all-region recognition. Junk achieved a 13-1-8 record with 12 shutouts and maintained an .898 save percentage.
