The GVSU women's basketball team is set for their first road games of 2025, following a strong start to the new year with two wins. The Lakers will face Ferris State on Thursday and Lake Superior State on Saturday.

GVSU secured victories against Michigan Tech and Northern Michigan last weekend, improving their record to 14-1 overall and 4-0 in league play. In the game against Michigan Tech, the Lakers led significantly at halftime, finishing with a 93-52 win. Rylie Bisballe was the top scorer with 15 points, while Lauren Slagle added 13 and Abrie Cabana contributed 12. Against Northern Michigan, GVSU won by a narrower margin of 81-71, with Bisballe achieving her season-high of 22 points and securing her first double-double with 11 rebounds. Nicole Kamin scored 14 points, and Lexi Plitzuweit had 10 points. The Laker defense limited key players from both teams to a combined shooting percentage of under .300.

Thursday's game against Ferris State will feature the top two teams in the GLIAC, both holding a league record of 4-0. Ferris State has maintained an average scoring rate above 80 per game this season and exceeded this in conference play with more than 88 points per game. Kadyn Blanchard leads FSU and the GLIAC in scoring with an average of 17.6 points per game. In their latest match against Wayne State, Ferris State achieved a school record by making 18 three-pointers.

On Saturday, GVSU will travel to Sault Ste. Marie to compete against Lake Superior State. LSSU holds a current record of 4-8 overall and is ranked at 1-3 in the GLIAC standings after losses to Ferris State, SVSU, and Wayne State but managing a win over Roosevelt University. Grace Bradford stands out for LSSU as she averages a double-double this season.
