The GVSU Swim and Dive team is set to compete against Wayne State at home on January 11, 2025. The meet will take place at the GVSU Fieldhouse Pool at 1 p.m.
The Laker men's team recently celebrated a victory over the NCAA Division II champions, the University of Tampa. However, they experienced a setback with a loss to Indian River State College during their training trip in Fort Pierce, Florida. Esteban Nunez Del Prado achieved first place in the 100-yard IM with a time of 48.77 seconds. In diving, Matt Blommel secured second place in the 1-meter dive with a score of 278.32.
The women's team faced defeats against both Indian River State College and the University of Tampa. Despite this, Linda Frick managed a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:54.62. Diver Maddie Koositra finished second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
Head Coach Andy Boyce commented on their preparation: "Right after final exams, we traveled to Florida for a training trip focused on building our base training and endurance." He added that after returning home briefly, they resumed intensive practice last Friday.
"We've settled back into our routine this week, and with the meet tomorrow, we'll be ready to go," Boyce continued. "We have competitions lined up for the next three weekends, so things are busy here at the pool. We're looking forward to a fun weekend!"
