Grand Valley State University's wrestling team concluded the first day of the 2024 NWCA National Duals with a record of two wins and one loss. The event took place in Cedar Falls, Iowa on January 10th. The Lakers began their campaign with a narrow 20-17 defeat against Augustana, ranked seventh. Despite this setback, they rebounded strongly with victories over Indianapolis and Upper Iowa.

The match against Augustana was closely contested, with both teams winning five matches each. However, Augustana secured the win through three bonus-point victories.

In their second match, Grand Valley State achieved a decisive 36-10 victory over Indianapolis. The Lakers dominated early on by winning the first eight matches consecutively.

Their final match of the day saw them triumph over Upper Iowa with a score of 21-15. This victory came after an intense competition where Upper Iowa managed to level the score midway through the contest. Key performances from Wyatt Miller and Carter Blough helped secure the win for Grand Valley State.

The Lakers are set to face off against the University of Mary in a consolation semifinal scheduled for Saturday morning.
