Grand Valley State edges out Davenport with late-game rally

The Grand Valley State men's basketball team secured a narrow victory over Davenport, finishing the game with a 9-0 run to win 62-60. This result improved the Lakers' season record to 7-8 and their GLIAC standing to 3-4.

Kaden Brown led the scoring for the Lakers with 21 points, making four three-pointers and hitting seven out of ten free throws. William Dunn contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks. Trevon Gunter and Shamus Thompson each added six points and two steals, while Trevor Smith Jr. recorded five points along with a game-high six assists.

GVSU's shooting percentage was 36% from the field and 38% from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Davenport shot 37% overall but only managed 25% on three-point attempts. The Panthers had an advantage in rebounding, grabbing a total of 42 compared to GVSU's 34.

The Lakers began strongly by making their first five three-point shots within the opening seven minutes, establishing a substantial lead at 25-10. During this period, Kaden Brown scored eight points off the bench.

Davenport responded with an 8-2 run to reduce the deficit to nine points before GVSU extended their lead again through a layup by William Dunn. However, the Panthers narrowed it once more with a swift scoring burst that brought them within one point at halftime, as GVSU led 36-30.

In the second half, Davenport briefly took control after tying the game at 46-46 and then taking their first lead since early in the match. The last ten minutes saw intense defensive efforts from both teams. Davenport reached their largest lead at seven points before GVSU's decisive final push sealed their victory.

The Lakers will next face Roosevelt on Monday night in Chicago. The game marks the first meeting between these two programs and is scheduled for tipoff at 7:30 PM CT / 8:30 PM ET. Fans can watch live on FloSports or listen via Thunder Country 107.3.
