Grand Valley State swimmers receive GLIAC honors

Grand Valley State University's swim and dive team celebrated two of its athletes being named Swimmers of the Week by the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Lucy Hedley and Raul Briceno received this recognition for their performances in recent competitions.

Lucy Hedley was honored as the Women's Swimmer of the Week for the fifth time this season, marking her second consecutive award. She participated in four events last weekend, securing first place in both the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.14 seconds and the 200-yard freestyle at 1:49.70. Additionally, Hedley contributed to her team's success in the 400-yard medley relay, finishing at 3:43.95, and the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:28.35.

Raul Briceno earned his second GLIAC Men's Swimmer of the Week title after competing against Davenport University. He achieved first place in both the 500-yard freestyle, clocking in at 4:32.59, and the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:18.13. Briceno also participated in the 400-yard freestyle relay team, which completed their race in 3:07.32.

The Grand Valley State Lakers are set to compete at home this weekend against the University of Findlay. The event will also serve as an opportunity to honor fourteen seniors for their contributions to the program, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
