Grand Valley State swimmers earn top honors ahead of GLIAC Championship

Four athletes from Grand Valley State University have been recognized as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) Swim and Dive Athletes of the Week. The announcement was made earlier today by the GLIAC.

Lucy Hedley, a standout in women's swimming, broke four pool records during a meet against the University of Findlay. She competed in the 50, 200, and 500 freestyle events with times of 23.36, 1:48.83, and 4:53.72 respectively. Additionally, she contributed to her team's success in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:26.72. This marks Hedley's sixth recognition as GLIAC Swimmer of the Week this season and her third consecutive award.

On the men's side, Matt Bosch excelled in his performances against Findlay, setting new pool records at the GVSU Fieldhouse Pool in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events with times of 43.95 and 1:36.73 respectively. He also placed second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.36 and was part of the victorious 400 freestyle relay team that clocked in at 2:58.84.

In diving, Maddie Kooistra claimed first place in both the women's 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 289.58 and 264.23 respectively.

Carter Wood led on the men's side by winning both diving events for Grand Valley State with scores of 300.15 in the one-meter dive and 280.05 in the three-meter dive.

The Lakers are set to compete next at the Holland Aquatics Center from February 19-22 during the GLIAC Championship event.
