Grand Valley State University secured a commanding victory over Davenport University with a score of 47-6 in their wrestling dual at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena. The match, held on Thursday evening, was attended by 648 spectators and marked the Lakers' only home event for the season. GVSU achieved nine bonus-point wins, including four pins, three technical falls, and two major decisions. Their next competition is scheduled for February 8-9 at the Indianapolis Duals.
The dual began with RS freshman Orion Wilson (125) securing a 19-1 technical fall. Sophomore Jak Keller (133), ranked #10, followed with a pin in just 1:46. RS freshman CJ Poole (141) added another pin at 5:42 in the third period, while top-ranked Chris Donathan (149) achieved a fall early in the second period at 3:22. Maddox Simcoe continued the streak with a first-period fall at 1:22, pushing GVSU to a significant lead of 30-0 after five matches.
In the second half of the dual, RS freshman Bradley Mayse (165) claimed a major decision win with a score of 14-6. Ranked #5 Josh Kenny (174) swiftly secured a technical fall victory at 16-1. Junior Wyatt Miller (197), ranked #14, earned a major decision win at 16-2. Finally, junior Carter Blough (285), ranked #3, concluded the dual with an impressive technical fall victory of 19-3.
