The Grand Valley State women's tennis team commenced their spring season with a decisive 5-0 victory over McKendree on Friday afternoon. This win marks the Lakers' first of the season, bringing their record to 1-0, while McKendree starts at 0-1.

In doubles matches, GVSU secured wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to claim the doubles point. Rachel Sam and Estefania Hernandez achieved a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Ipek Sakiroglu and Kalomoira Ralli dominated with a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles. Neus Ramos and Valentina Mozas faced a challenging match but ultimately fell with a score of 3-6 in the top doubles position.

During singles play, Neus Ramos earned a hard-fought three-set win with scores of 4-6, 6-4, and 10-3 at the top singles position. Valentina Mozas also claimed victory in a closely contested three-set match at No. 2 singles, finishing with scores of 6-4, 6-7, and 10-8. Anna Soteras secured a straight-set win at No. 3 singles with scores of 7-5 and 6-3, while Estefania Hernandez posted another straight-set win for GVSU at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-3 and 6-2.

Looking ahead, the Laker women will begin their home schedule next weekend by hosting Tiffin on Friday at noon and Findlay on Saturday evening at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club in Grandville, Michigan.
