GVSU women's basketball team secures road win against Michigan Tech

The GVSU women's basketball team concluded their longest road trip of the GLIAC schedule with a win against Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers secured a 69-51 victory after pulling away in the fourth quarter. This win brings GVSU to a record of 22-1 overall and 12-0 in GLIAC play.

Nicole Kamin initiated the scoring with a three-pointer just 32 seconds into the game, establishing a lead that GVSU maintained throughout. Both teams exchanged baskets early on, but Ellie Droste's three-pointer extended the Lakers' lead to 12-7. A layup by Rylie Bisballe further increased the margin, ending the first quarter at 14-7.

Michigan Tech narrowed the gap to five points in the second quarter, but Kamin responded with another three-pointer and a layup, pushing GVSU ahead by double digits at 21-11. Despite MTU's efforts to close in, GVSU led 31-21 at halftime after outscoring Michigan Tech in the final minutes of the half.

In the third quarter, GVSU's lead grew to as much as 12 points before Michigan Tech reduced it to six. However, MacKenzie Bisballe's late jumper gave the Lakers a 49-41 advantage going into the final period.

Hadley Miller opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer followed by MacKenzie's layup, increasing GVSU's lead to 13 points. Although Michigan Tech managed to get within nine points with over seven minutes remaining, Rylie Bisballe restored a double-digit lead for GVSU with her layup. This basket sparked an effective Laker run of 13-4 that sealed their victory.

Paige Vanstee and Nicole Kamin were key contributors with each scoring 14 points; Vanstee also grabbed eight rebounds while Kamin collected seven. MacKenzie Bisballe added 13 points along with four blocks and Rylie Bisballe scored 12 points and had seven rebounds. Lexi Plitzuweit contributed seven rebounds as well.

Next up for the Lakers is a return home where they will face LSSU on Thursday followed by Ferris State on Saturday.
