GVSU women's basketball players earn GLIAC weekly honors

Coming off two successful road victories, the Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team has secured two more wins with their players being recognized as GLIAC Athletes of the Week. Paige Vanstee received the offensive honors, while Nicole Kamin was acknowledged for her defensive performance.

Paige Vanstee, a redshirt junior from Middleville, Michigan, earned her first Offensive Player of the Week title after leading the Lakers to victories against Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech. Vanstee scored 34 points over these games with a shooting accuracy of 71% and contributed nine rebounds. In a game against Northern Michigan University (NMU), she achieved a season-high of 20 points by making seven out of eight shots and three three-pointers, contributing to a 74-48 win. She continued her strong performance against Michigan Tech by scoring 14 points and securing eight rebounds in a 69-51 victory. This season, Vanstee is averaging 7.8 points per game and ranks second in field goal percentage at 50.8%.

Nicole Kamin closed out the awards sweep by earning her first GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor. Over two games, Kamin accumulated 26 points, 15 rebounds, seven steals, six assists, and one block. In Marquette on Thursday against NMU, she recorded an impressive stat line with 12 points, seven rebounds, five steals, and five assists during their win over the Wildcats. Against Michigan Tech on Saturday, she tied for team lead with another strong performance including eight boards and additional defensive contributions that helped secure their win. Currently this season, Kamin ranks second in conference standings with steals totaling to be nationally ranked at number twenty-sixth place overall; further tied amongst teammates averaging nine point zero (9) scores per contest along four-point-four(4/4 )rebounds respectively

The Lakers are scheduled to return home this weekend facing Lake Superior State University on Thursday at six o'clock followed up hosting rival Ferris State slated one PM start time come Saturday afternoon.
