GVSU women's basketball prepares for home games against LSSU and Ferris State

The GVSU women's basketball team is set to host Lake Superior State University (LSSU) and Ferris State University this Thursday and Saturday. After a successful trip north, the Lakers defeated Northern Michigan 74-48 and Michigan Tech 69-51, bringing their league record to 12-0 and overall record to 22-1.

Paige Vanstee earned recognition as the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, scoring 34 points with a shooting percentage of 71% from the floor, along with nine rebounds in two games. Nicole Kamin also received defensive honors for her performance, which included 26 points, 15 rebounds, seven steals, six assists, and a block.

In their previous encounter with LSSU, GVSU secured a decisive victory with a score of 104-48. Paige Vanstee led the team with a double-double performance of 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Lakers shot an impressive 55.6% from the floor and forced LSSU into committing 31 turnovers.

Lake Superior State has struggled since that defeat against Grand Valley, experiencing a seven-game losing streak. They currently hold a record of 5-15 overall and are ninth in the GLIAC standings at 2-10 in league play. Grace Bradford leads LSSU in scoring with an average of 14.7 points per game.

In their last meeting against Ferris State in January, GVSU won by a margin of 83-61 after leading by as much as 21 points during the game. Rylie Bisballe scored a team-high of 15 points during that matchup.

Ferris State enters this weekend's game second in the GLIAC standings with a league record of 9-3 and an overall record of 15-6. Despite dropping two out of their last four games at home against Northern Michigan and Roosevelt, they maintain one of the top offenses in the league averaging over 78 points per game.
