Grand Valley State University has announced the appointment of Katelyn Longino as the new head coach for their women's soccer team. The announcement was made by the university's Director of Athletics, Keri Becker.
Longino joins Grand Valley State after a seven-year tenure at the University of Iowa, where she served as an associate head coach under Dave DiIanni, a former GVSU head coach and national champion. During her time with Iowa, Longino contributed to the team's success in securing two BIG Ten Tournament Championships and four NCAA Tournament appearances.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the new role, Longino stated, "I am extremely honored and grateful to be the head coach for the Grand Valley State women's soccer program. Grand Valley State is known for its rich tradition of excellence, both on and off the field, and I am eager to contribute to that legacy."
Prior to her position at Iowa, Longino held coaching roles at Valparaiso, Xavier, and Columbus State. Her coaching career began at Columbus State following a successful freshman season as a player. She later transitioned into coaching as a student assistant.
Keri Becker praised Longino's vision for the program: "Katelyn Longino brings excellent vision for our women's soccer program. She values strong relationships with her student-athletes, knows how to develop talent, and has a fire to compete."
Longino holds several qualifications including a USSF "B" coaching license and diplomas in sports performance and psychology from United Soccer Coaches. She earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science from Columbus State in 2016 and completed her master's degree in coaching education and athlete development from Xavier in 2018.
The search process was supported by Dr. Kurt Patberg from Mammoth Sports Consulting.
