The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team secured a decisive victory over Lake Superior State University (LSSU), maintaining their top ranking. In their first home game of February, GVSU overcame a slow start to dominate with an 83-41 win.
GVSU began the game with an early lead, but LSSU briefly overtook them with a 7-0 run. However, GVSU responded strongly, ending the first quarter with a 15-2 run that included a three-point play by Abrie Cabana, leading 23-13.
The momentum continued in the second quarter as GVSU extended their lead further with contributions from Nicole Kamin, who scored back-to-back layups and free throws. By halftime, GVSU led comfortably at 37-17.
In the third quarter, Grand Valley State widened their advantage further. Despite LSSU's efforts to reduce the gap to 22 points at one stage, GVSU finished the quarter strong with a 12-3 run.
Ellie Droste contributed to keeping the lead secure for GVSU in the final period. The team's defense ensured that LSSU never got closer than within 30 points for the remainder of the game. Additional scoring came from players like Molly Anderson and Hadley Miller towards the end.
Rylie Bisballe was notable for scoring in double figures for her twentieth time this season, leading her team with 16 points in just 16 minutes on court. Nicole Kamin added another impressive performance with 12 points and three steals. Other key contributors were Abrie Cabana, Hadley Miller, and MacKenzie Bisballe each scoring 11 points.
GVSU will face Ferris State next in their ongoing season campaign.
