The Grand Valley State men's tennis team secured a decisive 6-1 victory over Tiffin in their home opener on Friday afternoon. This win marks the Lakers' second consecutive victory, bringing their season record to 2-0.
In doubles play, GVSU clinched the point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Lucas Gonzalez and Victor Lopes achieved a 6-1 win at the top doubles spot, while Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles. However, Ignasi Garros and Chimo Minguez faced a setback with a 2-6 loss at No. 2 doubles.
In singles competition, Denys Zamaraiev delivered a strong performance with a straight-set victory of 6-0, 6-3 at the top singles position. Lucas Gonzalez continued his success with a straight-set win of 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Ignasi Garros secured another point for GVSU with a straight-set win of 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
Patricio Sepulveda overcame challenges to earn a three-set victory of 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 at No. 5 singles, while Jorge Ruiz added to the team's success with a straightforward win of 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles. Despite efforts from Victor Lopes, he was defeated in a three-set match of 1-6, 6-1, 3-6 at No.2 singles.
The Lakers are set to conclude their weekend homestand by hosting Findlay on Saturday evening with first serve scheduled for five o'clock PM at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club.
