The Grand Valley State men's tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over Findlay on Saturday evening, marking their third consecutive win of the season. Despite losing the doubles point, the Lakers demonstrated resilience by sweeping all singles matches.
In doubles play, Findlay gained an early advantage with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 positions. Lucas Gonzalez and Victor Lopes managed a narrow 7-6 win at the top doubles spot for Grand Valley State, while Ignasi Garros and Chimo Minguez faced a 4-6 defeat at No. 2 doubles. Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov also suffered a close loss, finishing 5-7 in their match at No. 3 doubles.
Grand Valley State turned the tide in singles competition. Denys Zamaraiev led with a straight-set victory of 6-2, 6-3 at the top position. Victor Lopes triumphed in three sets with scores of 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. Lucas Gonzalez achieved another straight-set win for the Lakers at No. 3 singles with scores of 7-6, 6-4.
Ignasi Garros added to the success with a three-set victory (6-4, 2-6, 6-2) at No. 5 singles, while Patricio Sepulveda dominated his match with a straight-set score of 6-0, 7-5 also at No.5 singles position due to what seems like repetition or typo error in source text mentioning two players winning same spot which is unusual for one match setup format per player . Jorge Ruiz completed the sweep with his own straight-set win (6-4, 6-2) at No. 6 singles.
The Lakers will return home next weekend to host Grace College on Friday and Walsh on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled to be held at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club.
