Grand Valley State softball loses season opener doubleheader against Findlay

The Grand Valley State softball team faced a challenging start to their 2025 season, losing both games in a doubleheader against Findlay. The first game ended with a score of 6-1, and the second concluded at 8-2.

In the initial matchup, Findlay secured an early advantage with a four-run third inning, thanks to two home runs. They added two more runs in the sixth inning. GVSU's only run came in the fourth inning from an RBI by Faith Edwards. Eliana Eiland and Elizabeth Wesoloski each contributed with a hit and a walk, while Morgan Spicer and Kylie Sinal hit doubles. Nevaeh Ingram pitched all seven innings for GVSU, striking out three batters but ultimately taking the loss.

The second game saw Findlay quickly take control with three runs in the first inning and another three in the second, leading 6-0. GVSU managed to score one run following a Findlay error in their half of the second inning. Findlay extended their lead by adding two more runs in the fourth. GVSU scored once more off a Madelynn Pope RBI sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

Morgan Spicer hit a triple and walked during this game, while Kylie Sinal went 1-1 with two walks. Faith Edwards contributed with a double and scored once again. Christine Duch started as pitcher for GVSU but was charged with the loss after allowing three earned runs over three innings while striking out four batters. Karli Dorr relieved her on the mound for four innings without giving up any earned runs and striking out two.

Looking ahead, Grand Valley State will participate in the Lewis Dome Tournament next weekend in Rosemont, Illinois. They are scheduled to play six games over three days starting Thursday, February 20th against Minnesota Duluth at 4:30 PM.
