The GVSU women's basketball team is preparing for their final regular season road trip, facing Purdue Northwest and Parkside this weekend. The Lakers will compete against the Pride on Thursday night and conclude the weekend with a game against the Rangers on Saturday.
Currently, the Lakers are on a 13-game winning streak after recent victories over LSSU and Ferris State. Their record stands at 24-1 overall and 14-0 in league play, placing them four games ahead in the standings. Against LSSU, GVSU turned an early deficit into a commanding lead with a 29-6 run to end the first half, eventually winning 83-41. Key performances included Rylie Bisballe with 16 points and Nicole Kamin with 12. In their matchup against Ferris State, they established a significant lead early on, finishing with a 78-57 victory. MacKenzie Bisballe led with 17 points while Rylie added a double-double of 13 points and rebounds. "Rylie Bisballe moved into fifth place in program history with 829 rebounds and 572 made field goals," earning her the title of GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.
In their previous encounter this season, GVSU dominated Purdue Northwest with a decisive 106-47 win, marking their largest margin of victory so far. Six players scored in double figures during that game. The Pride has since experienced a five-game losing streak, holding an overall record of 5-17 and struggling defensively by allowing an average of 77.1 points per game.
Their earlier matchup against Parkside was more defensive-focused initially but ended in a strong fourth quarter for GVSU, securing a 72-43 win. Molly Anderson achieved a career-high eight points in that game.
Heading into this weekend's games, Parkside has won three out of their last four matches and currently ranks fourth in the GLIAC standings with an overall record of 14-7. They excel in rebounding within the league and have been effective defensively by limiting opponents' shooting percentages.
