The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team delivered a remarkable performance on Thursday night, achieving one of the highest offensive scores in the program's history. The Lakers secured a 126-48 victory over Purdue Northwest, setting a new record with 18 three-pointers in a single game. With this win, GVSU improved their overall record to 25-1 and maintained an undefeated status in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) at 15-0.
Purdue Northwest initially took an early lead with a score of 5-4, but GVSU quickly responded with six consecutive points. Abrie Cabana, Nicole Kamin, and Ellie Droste each contributed layups to push the Lakers ahead at 10-5. Cabana added a three-pointer followed by two more from Avery Zeinstra, extending the lead to 19-8. Further contributions from Droste and Kathryn Schmidt closed the first quarter at 29-15.
Cabana continued her scoring streak into the second quarter, adding five points through free throws and another three-pointer. Hadley Miller also scored from beyond the arc, pushing GVSU's lead past 20 points at 44-23. By halftime, GVSU held a commanding lead of 58-30.
The third quarter saw GVSU dominate further by outscoring Purdue Northwest 31-7. A significant run began with a three-pointer from Cabana and concluded with consecutive triples by Droste and Sydney Cherney. This performance moved Droste into fifth place for most career three-pointers made in program history with 174 successful shots.
In the final period, GVSU extended their lead to an impressive margin of 106-37 after scoring the first seventeen points of the quarter. Paige Vanstee's two free throws brought their total to a season-high score of 111-42. Additional contributions from Miller and Cherney sealed their largest victory margin of the season at 78 points.
Ellie Droste led all scorers with a season-high of 22 points while making four three-pointers. Abrie Cabana also netted four triples contributing to her total of 20 points. Avery Zeinstra recorded a career-high of 17 points alongside five assists. MacKenzie Bisballe contributed significantly with thirteen points and nine rebounds while Hadley Miller added eleven points to her tally. Paige Vanstee provided eight points coupled with seven rebounds.
The Lakers outrebounded their opponents significantly by grabbing fifty boards compared to Purdue Northwest's nineteen and capitalized on bench strength contributing eighty-five bench points during this matchup where they shot an efficient sixty-two percent from field goals including fifty-one percent accuracy beyond-the-line as well as dishing out twenty-eight assists forcing twenty-three turnovers upon Pride players throughout gameplay duration.
