Grand Valley State wins final regular season match against Findlay

Grand Valley State University's wrestling team secured a 29-21 victory over the University of Findlay on Saturday in Findlay, Ohio. This win marks the conclusion of their regular season, ending with a 10-6 dual meet record. The Lakers are set to compete next at the NCAA Regional Tournament in Tiffin, Ohio, on March 1st.

The match began with Grand Valley State trailing after losing the first two bouts. However, C.J. Poole earned six points for GVSU with a forfeit win at 141 pounds. Chris Donathan, ranked number one, then extended GVSU's lead by achieving a technical fall against Mason Kleinberg at 149 pounds with a score of 17-2.

Findlay responded by winning matches at both 157 and 165 pounds. Nevertheless, another forfeit win for Grand Valley State at 174 pounds against Josh Kenny allowed them to regain the lead. Brayden Mirjavadi further solidified GVSU's advantage with a technical fall victory over Vaugh Petty at 184 pounds, and Wyatt Miller secured the win by pinning Luke Sparkman at 197 pounds within just over two minutes.

The final bout was voided by Grand Valley State, concluding the match with their victory over Findlay.

Grand Valley State's individual results were as follows:

- At 125 pounds, Wyatt Nemitz from Findlay defeated Orion Wilson of GVSU.

- Ashton Anderson of Findlay achieved a technical fall against Jak Keller from GVSU at 133 pounds.

- C.J. Poole won by forfeit at 141 pounds.

- Chris Donathan recorded a technical fall victory over Mason Kleinberg at 149 pounds.

- Gary Nilson from Findlay defeated Michael Merritt of GVSU at 157 pounds.

- Andrew Knick from Findlay achieved a major decision against Bradley Mayse of GVSU at 165 pounds.

- Josh Kenny won by forfeit at 174 pounds.

- Brayden Mirjavadi recorded a technical fall victory over Vaugh Petty at 184 pounds.

- Wyatt Miller pinned Luke Sparkman in the first period at 197 pounds.
