The GVSU women's basketball team faced a narrow defeat against Parkside, with the final score at 79-77. The game, held in Kenosha, Wisconsin, marked the Lakers' second loss of the season.

In the opening quarter, both teams displayed strong offensive performances, each shooting over 50% from the floor. The lead changed hands multiple times, with neither team establishing a significant advantage. Kathryn Schmidt's late three-pointer gave the Lakers a slight edge as they ended the first quarter leading 24-21.

As the second quarter began, defenses tightened on both sides. The Lakers managed to extend their lead to 38-25 following a successful 10-2 run. However, Parkside narrowed this gap by halftime, leaving GVSU ahead by ten points at 44-34.

The third quarter proved pivotal for Parkside as they outscored GVSU 28-15 and took a three-point lead into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Parkside led by seven points at one stage. Nevertheless, GVSU rallied back and briefly took a two-point lead thanks to Abrie Cabana's three-pointer. Yet Parkside equalized with two free throws and clinched victory with a last-second shot.

Abrie Cabana was GVSU's top scorer with 15 points. Rylie Bisballe contributed 14 points and six rebounds. Nicole Kamin added 11 points along with eight rebounds and three assists while Ellie Droste chipped in with ten points and four rebounds.

Looking ahead, GVSU will return home for a four-game homestand to conclude their regular season schedule. Their next match is against Wayne State on Thursday night at 6:00 p.m.
