The GVSU women's basketball team is preparing to host Wayne State and SVSU this weekend in Allendale, Michigan. The games mark the start of a four-game homestand that will conclude the regular season for the Lakers next Saturday.
The Lakers recently experienced their second loss of the season against Parkside, with a close 79-77 defeat. Despite this setback, GVSU remains third-ranked nationally by the WBCA. Last weekend, they achieved a significant victory over Purdue Northwest, winning 126-48 and setting a program record with 18 three-pointers.
GVSU will face Wayne State on Thursday at 6:00 PM. This matchup is the second meeting between these teams this season; GVSU previously defeated Wayne State 80-59 in December. Rylie Bisballe led that game with 15 points. Historically, GVSU has been dominant against Wayne State, securing 21 consecutive victories since the 2014-15 season.
Wayne State aims to improve its standing for a chance to host a GLIAC Tournament game. They currently hold fifth place in the league with an overall record of 15-9 and a conference record of 10-6. Key players include Shea Tripp, McKenna Ferguson, and Taylor Thompson.
On Saturday at 1:00 PM, GVSU will take on SVSU. In their previous encounter earlier this season, GVSU won decisively with a score of 93-36. Rylie Bisballe again led her team in scoring during that game.
SVSU stands at .500 for the season and ranks eighth in the league with a GLIAC record of 6-10. The Cardinals have lost two consecutive games and are striving to maintain their position for conference play.
Both games can be followed via live stats and live stream, with additional coverage available on WXSP for Saturday's game. Radio broadcasts will also be available on several local stations.
