The Grand Valley State softball team emerged victorious in both of their games on the first day of the Lewis Dome Tournament in Rosemont, Illinois. The Lakers improved their season record to 2-2 with wins against Minnesota State Moorhead and Minnesota Duluth, each by a score of 2-0.
In the first game against Minnesota State Moorhead, the Lakers scored their two runs in the fifth inning. Faith Edwards initiated the scoring with a triple, followed by Carsyn Segorski's single that brought Edwards home. Segorski later advanced to third base due to passed balls and was driven home by Madelynn Pope's single.
Freshman pitcher Karli Dorr excelled on the mound, achieving her first collegiate win and complete game shutout. She allowed only three hits while striking out ten batters without issuing any walks. Carsyn Segorski contributed significantly by driving in and scoring a run, while Faith Edwards recorded her second extra-base hit of the season.
In their second game against Minnesota Duluth, GVSU took an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Madelynn Pope drew a walk and eventually scored on Elizabeth Wesoloski's single. Grace Usher then delivered her first career RBI with a single that scored Wesoloski.
Nevaeh Ingram performed strongly as GVSU's pitcher in this game, securing her first win with a complete game shutout. She pitched all seven innings, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out eight batters. Elizabeth Wesoloski went 2-for-2 at bat with a run scored and the decisive RBI. Morgan Spicer added a hit, and Grace Usher marked her debut hit and RBI in college play.
The Lakers are set to continue their participation in the Lewis Dome Tournament with two more games scheduled for tomorrow against Truman State at 4:30 PM ET / 3:30 PM CT and St. Cloud State at 7:00 PM ET / 6:00 PM CT.
