The Grand Valley State men's tennis team achieved a significant milestone, reaching a 6-0 record for the first time since 2017. This accomplishment came after their decisive 6-1 victory over Northwood on Friday afternoon in Midland, Michigan.
In doubles competition, GVSU secured the point by sweeping all matches. Lucas Gonzalez and Victor Lopes triumphed with a 6-2 win at the top position. Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov dominated with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Chimo Minguez and Patricio Sepulveda edged out their opponents with a close 7-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
During singles play, Denys Zamaraiev emerged victorious in a challenging three-set match at the top singles position, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Victor Lopes also claimed a hard-fought three-set win at No. 2 singles with scores of 6-4, 6-7, and 6-3. Patricio Sepulveda followed suit with another three-set victory at No. 3 singles (6-2, 3-6, and 6-4). Lawrence Ivanov delivered a straight-set win at No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-2), while Jorge Ruiz secured an impressive double bagel (6-0, 6-0) at No. 6 singles. Ignasi Garros faced a tough loss in his three-set match at No. 4 singles (2-6, 2-10).
Looking ahead to next week, GVSU will travel to Florida for three matches as they continue their season. The Lakers are set to compete against Charleston on February 28th in Lakeland.
