GVSU swim teams claim victory at GLIAC Championships

The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's and men's swim and dive teams have won the 2025 GLIAC Championship title. This marks the third consecutive victory for the women's team, who scored 1096.5 points to secure their win, surpassing Northern Michigan University (NMU) with 753.5 points and Wayne State University (WSU) with 650 points. The men's team achieved their 11th consecutive title, scoring 809 points, followed by WSU with 707 points and NMU with 579 points.

Head Coach Andy Boyce and his coaching staff received the Coaching Staff of the Year award. Individual accolades were given to Maddie Kooistra as Diver of the Year, Lucy Hedley as Swimmer of the Year, and Esteban Nunez Del Prado as Freshman of the Year.

Lucy Hedley delivered a standout performance in the 100 free event, securing gold with a time of 49.37 seconds while breaking several records including pool, school, GLIAC Meet, and overall GLIAC records.

In other notable performances for GVSU, Gaia Tomaselli finished seventh in her event; Vittoria Proietti took gold in the 200 backstroke setting a new school record; Sara Alvarez won gold in the 200 breaststroke; Elliott McAlpine secured bronze in his respective event.

The women's team also claimed gold in the 400 freestyle relay with Kiersten Harmon, Lucy Hedley, Annabelle Nixon, and Alysa Wager contributing to break multiple records.

For the men's team, Jon Kantzenbach placed fourth in his event; Thomas Zoldowski earned bronze in the 200 backstroke; Matt Bosch set a new school record earning silver in the 100 free while Evan Scotto DiVetta took bronze. Andrew Goh broke several records including school and GLIAC records to win gold in the 200 breaststroke.

The men’s relay team comprising Scotto DiVetta, Christoffel Neitzel, Bosch captured silver in their final event of the night.

Coach Andy Boyce expressed pride stating: "It was amazing to see our teams come together as a group to win the conference championship. We can't wait to see how many will qualify for the NCAA Championship!"
