GVSU Lakers dominate Davenport in Crosstown Showdown

In Allendale, Michigan, the GVSU women's basketball team secured a decisive victory against Davenport in their penultimate regular-season game. The matchup, part of the Crosstown Showdown series, concluded with an 80-32 win for the Lakers.

The game began with a strong start for the Lakers as Kathryn Schmidt opened the scoring with a three-pointer. This was followed by MacKenzie Bisballe's five consecutive points, pushing GVSU to a 12-2 lead. Abrie Cabana contributed two three-pointers towards the end of the first quarter, leading to a 26-2 advantage.

Davenport responded with a 9-2 run in the second quarter but could not close the gap significantly. Rylie Bisballe and Nicole Kamin helped extend GVSU's lead to 34-11. By halftime, the score was 46-15 in favor of GVSU.

The third quarter saw both teams exchanging points initially; however, an 8-0 run by GVSU widened their lead further to 62-23 by its end. In the fourth quarter, Paige Vanstee scored a three-pointer that initiated another run for GVSU, ultimately securing their victory at 80-32.

MacKenzie Bisballe led the scoring for GVSU with 17 points and seven rebounds. Rylie Bisballe added 13 points and six rebounds while Paige Vanstee contributed with 11 points, four rebounds, and three steals. Nicole Kamin filled her stats sheet impressively with seven points, seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals. The Lakers forced Davenport into committing 32 turnovers and converted these into 28 points.

Davenport struggled offensively throughout the game, shooting only 28% from the field and making just over 15% of their three-point attempts.

GVSU will conclude their regular season on Saturday when they host Roosevelt at home.
