Grand Valley State narrowly loses to Charleston in men's tennis

The Grand Valley State men's tennis team experienced a narrow 4-3 defeat against Charleston on Friday afternoon in Lakeland, Florida. This match marked the beginning of their three-match set in the state. With this loss, the Lakers' season record stands at 6-1.

Charleston secured the doubles point by winning matches at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. Chimo Minguez and Denys Zamaraiev managed to earn a victory for Grand Valley State with a 7-6 win at No. 3 doubles. However, Victor Lopes and Lucas Gonzalez were defeated 3-6 at the top doubles spot, while Lawrence Ivanov and Stephen Claassen faced a challenging 5-7 loss at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Lucas Gonzalez achieved a hard-fought victory with scores of 6-3, 2-6, and 6-2 in his three-set match at No. 2 singles. Victor Lopes also emerged victorious with scores of 4-6, 6-3, and 6-2 in another three-set contest at No. 3 singles. Jorge Ruiz delivered a straight-set win of 6-1, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

Denys Zamaraiev was defeated with scores of 4-6 and 0-6 in his match at the top singles position. Patricio Sepulveda endured a tough three-set battle but ultimately lost with scores of 7-5, 4-6, and 0-6 at No. 4 singles. Ignasi Garros also fought through three sets but fell short with scores of 6-7, 7-5, and finally losing the third set with a score of -2 to -.

The Lakers are scheduled to return to action on Monday, March third when they will travel to Winter Park, Florida for a match against Rollins College starting at one PM.
