The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team concluded their regular season with a decisive victory over Roosevelt, winning 116-62. This win secures GVSU's position as the top seed in the upcoming Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament, boasting a record of 29-2 overall and 19-1 in conference play.
In the early moments of the game, GVSU broke away from a tie at six points with three consecutive three-pointers from Abrie Cabana and Rylie Bisballe, establishing a lead they maintained throughout. The Lakers extended their advantage with a significant 19-0 run, highlighted by contributions from Ellie Droste and Cabana. By the end of the first quarter, GVSU was ahead 38-12.
The second quarter saw continued dominance from GVSU, particularly in scoring within the paint. Droste's shooting helped propel them to a halftime lead of 71-32. The third quarter maintained this momentum as both teams exchanged baskets before GVSU closed out with an additional run to lead 91-50.
In the final quarter, MacKenzie Bisballe's performance was notable as she scored early to push GVSU past the century mark. Additional scoring from Vanstee and Anderson further widened their lead before Kathryn Schmidt concluded the game's scoring for GVSU.
MacKenzie Bisballe achieved a career-high with 25 points alongside five rebounds and four steals. Rylie Bisballe also had an impressive showing with a season-high of 24 points and six rebounds. Abrie Cabana contributed significantly with 19 points and five assists. Paige Vanstee added 12 points while Ellie Droste scored 11 points; Molly Anderson rounded off double-digit scorers with ten points.
GVSU demonstrated efficiency by shooting over fifty percent both overall and from beyond the arc while forcing turnovers against Roosevelt and securing more rebounds.
Looking ahead, GVSU will remain on home ground for their GLIAC Tournament matchup against Michigan Tech scheduled for Wednesday at six o'clock in the evening.
