The Grand Valley State University softball team ended day two of The Spring Games in Florida with a split outcome. On March 2, the Lakers faced Wilmington and Concordia – St. Paul, achieving one loss and one victory.
In their first game against Wilmington, the Lakers were defeated 2-0. Wilmington scored both runs in the third inning with a solo home run followed by an RBI single. Pitcher Karli Dorr completed six innings, allowing only two hits and striking out seven batters. Offensively, Dorr contributed two singles from three at-bats.
The second game saw GVSU bounce back with an 8-3 win over Concordia – St. Paul. The opponents initially took the lead with a two-run homer in the second inning, but GVSU responded quickly to level the score. Madelynn Pope's RBI triple initiated the comeback, followed by Eliana Eiland's single that tied the game.
A strong fourth inning for GVSU included five runs, establishing a solid lead of 7-2. Faith Edwards' groundout and subsequent errors allowed additional runs, while Elizabeth Wesoloski’s double brought in two more scores. Kylie Sinal added another run with an RBI single.
GVSU extended their advantage to 8-2 in the fifth inning through Pope's second RBI hit of the game. Concordia – St. Paul managed one more run in the sixth inning, finalizing the score at 8-3.
Pitcher Nevaeh Ingram secured her third win of the season by pitching all seven innings for GVSU, allowing three runs on six hits and recording five strikeouts. Key performances came from Madelynn Pope who went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Eliana Eiland who finished 2-for-3.
The Lakers are scheduled to play Ashland and Southern New Hampshire on March 3 as they continue their series in Clermont, Florida.
