The Grand Valley State softball team experienced mixed results at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida, on Monday. The Lakers secured a victory against Ashland with a score of 5-2 but fell to Southern New Hampshire by a narrow margin of 5-4. This split brings the Lakers' season record to 6-8.

In their first game against Ashland, GVSU took an early lead when Elizabeth Wesoloski hit an RBI single in the first inning, scoring Faith Edwards. The team extended their advantage with three more runs in the second inning. Karli Dorr's double and subsequent hits from Eliana Eiland and Edwards contributed to a 4-0 lead. Although Ashland managed to score in the third and seventh innings, GVSU maintained control for the win.

Karli Dorr pitched all seven innings for GVSU, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out six batters. Wesoloski had two hits, including a double and an RBI. Eiland also performed well with two hits and one RBI.

In the second game against Southern New Hampshire, GVSU tied the game at one after an error by SNH in the second inning. They briefly led 3-1 following contributions from Dorr and Carysn Segorksi in the fourth inning. However, errors allowed SNH to regain control with a decisive fifth inning that included a two-RBI single.

Kylie Swierkos started as pitcher for GVSU but was replaced by Christine Duch after one inning. Duch allowed three unearned runs over her 3.2 innings on the mound. Nevaeh Ingram provided relief pitching for one inning.

Madelynn Pope stood out offensively for GVSU with two hits and an RBI. Despite their efforts, GVSU could not overcome SNH's lead in the final innings.

GVSU will continue their participation at The Spring Games on Wednesday with games scheduled against Edinboro and West Virginia Wesleyan at Legends Way in Clermont.
