The GLIAC has announced the recipients of its women's basketball All-Conference awards, with Grand Valley State University (GVSU) securing significant recognition. The Lakers claimed four major awards and had a notable presence on the All-Conference teams.
Rylie Bisballe, a senior forward from GVSU, was named both the GLIAC Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. "She becomes the third Laker to be named Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons," joining Cassidy Boensch and Niki Reams in this achievement. This season, Bisballe led her team with an average of 13.5 points per game and demonstrated versatility with rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. She was also recognized as a First-Team All-GLIAC selection.
MacKenize Bisballe earned the title of GLIAC Freshman of the Year. Her performance included an average of 10.1 points per game, along with notable defensive contributions such as leading the conference in blocks. "Bisballe becomes the fifth Laker to be named GLIAC Freshman of the Year."
Head coach Mike Williams received his fourth consecutive GLIAC Coach of the Year award and fifth overall during his career at GVSU. Under his leadership, GVSU achieved a 29-2 record and secured their fourth straight league title. Williams's tenure has made him "the winningest coach in program history."
Other GVSU players honored include Abrie Cabana and Nicole Kamin on the first team alongside Rylie Bisballe. Cabana excelled in three-point shooting while Kamin stood out defensively with numerous steals and assists.
Ellie Droste was acknowledged on the second team for her consistent scoring ability throughout her senior year.
As they advance into further competition, "The Lakers continue play in the GLIAC Tournament Saturday afternoon in the semifinals," facing Wayne State at home.
