The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team is set to face Wayne State in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament semifinals on Saturday at 2:00 PM. The match will determine who advances to Sunday's championship game.
GVSU secured their place in the semifinals after a 60-47 victory over Michigan Tech in the quarterfinals. The Lakers were ahead by seven points at halftime and increased their lead with a strong third quarter performance. Rylie Bisballe led GVSU with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Ellie Droste contributed 10 points.
Throughout this season, GVSU has won both encounters against Wayne State, first with an 80-59 victory on the road in December and then an 85-67 win at home two weeks ago. Rylie Bisballe averaged 17 points and five rebounds across these games, supported by her sister MacKenzie Bisballe's average of 11.5 points and six rebounds. Ellie Droste also averaged 11.5 points, while Abrie Cabana added an average of 11 points per game. GVSU holds a winning streak of 22 games against Wayne State.
Wayne State advanced to the semifinals by defeating Parkside with a score of 65-52. As the sixth seed in the Midwest Regional rankings, they aim to secure their spot in next week's NCAA Tournament. Their team features All-GLIAC selections Shea Tripp and Taylor Thompson. Tripp leads with an average of 14 points and eight rebounds per game, while Thompson averages 11.1 points and a team-high of 8.3 rebounds per game.
