The GVSU women's golf team has commenced their spring season at the SMSU Spring Invitational held at Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park, Arizona. The team leads after the first round, holding a four-stroke advantage as they head into the second round.
The Lakers concluded the opening day with a score of 291, three over par. Trailing them is Academy of Art with a score of 295 (+7), followed by Western New Mexico at +10. Saint Martin's stands in fourth place with a score of +21, and Montana State-Billings completes the top five at twenty-three over par.
Olivia Stoll shares first place individually after scoring two under par with a round of 70 that included five birdies. Evelyn Park, Julia Sanchez, Paula Badino, and Rachael Krieger are tied for fifth place at one over par, each shooting rounds of 73. Park made four birdies, Badino had three, while Sanchez and Krieger each made two birdies.
Freshmen Charlotte Goersch and Lea Stotz both ended their rounds tied for 14th position with scores of 75 (+3). Stotz recorded three birdies during her round while Goersch managed one. Megan Miron finished her round tied for 24th with a score of 79 (+7), and Lorena Saquicoray shot an 85 (+13) to finish in 52nd place.
The Lakers will compete in the final round tomorrow as they aim to secure victory in the tournament.
