The Midwest Region of the NCAA women's basketball tournament will once again take place in Allendale, Michigan. The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's basketball team has secured the top seed in the region and will host this week's tournament.
This marks the tenth consecutive year that the Lakers have qualified for the NCAA Tournament. They achieved this after their victory in Sunday's GLIAC Tournament championship game. With a record of 32-2 for the season, GVSU enters the tournament on a seven-game winning streak. Historically, they have won five regional titles and one National Title during the 2005-06 season.
Other teams participating in the tournament include Ashland as the second seed, Northern Michigan as third, Wayne State as fourth, Lewis as fifth, Hillsdale as sixth, Ferris State as seventh, and Quincy as eighth. Quincy is set to face GVSU in their opening round.
The games are scheduled to start on Friday at noon with four quarterfinal matches. Each game will begin every two and a half hours. The semifinals are planned for Saturday evening at 5:00 and 7:30 p.m., while the championship game is slated for Monday night at 7:00 p.m.
