GVSU swim & dive team makes strides at National Championship

The GVSU swim and dive team concluded the second day of the National Championship in Indianapolis, achieving notable results. The women's team stands in 6th place with a score of 67, trailing behind Colorado Mesa and Clarion. Meanwhile, the men's team is in 5th place with a score of 82, just behind McKendree.

Sara Alvarez represented the women's side by finishing 13th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.59, earning All-American honors. The women's 200 medley relay team set a new school record by finishing in 10th place at 1:40.99. This relay team consisted of Vittoria Proietti, Sara Alvarez, Alysa Wager, and Lucy Hedley.

In diving events, Maddie Kooistra secured a podium finish by taking third place in the women's 1-meter dive with a score of 441.65. Olivia Kutsche participated in the consolation round and finished in 14th place with a score of 380.95.

On the men's side, Esteban Nunez Del Prado earned All-American recognition by finishing 15th in the 200 IM with a time of 1:47.54. Evan Scotto DiVetta broke a school record during prelims for the men's 50 free and later placed fourth in finals with a time of 19.59.

Jon Kantzenbach earned an eighth-place finish and All-American status in the men's 1000 free event with his time of 9:09.33.

The men's relay team consisting of Aaron Dies, Andrew Goh, Esteban Nunez Del Prado, and Evan Scotto DiVetta completed their race sixth overall at a time of 1:25.73.

Upcoming events for tomorrow's championship include competitions such as the men's three-meter dive along with other swimming events like the fly and freestyle races.

The Lakers will compete again on March 13, continuing their participation at Indianapolis' venue.
