GVSU women's lacrosse team heads to Ohio for matches against Walsh and Ashland

The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's lacrosse team is set to continue their early season road trip with two games in Ohio this weekend. The Lakers will face Walsh on Friday afternoon and Ashland on Saturday afternoon.

During their recent Spring Break trip to Colorado, the Lakers achieved a split record. They secured a victory against Colorado Mesa with a score of 14-7 but were defeated by Regis 12-5. In the win over the Mavericks, standout performances included Ashleigh Rothe's four goals and two assists, Gracie Bancroft's hat trick, and contributions from Ella Boose and Jillian Bingman who each scored twice. Kaylyn Cater made four saves to help secure the win. Against Regis, Zoe Ziegler recorded a hat trick while Cater and Sarah Krause each contributed seven saves.

Walsh enters the matchup with a 2-5 record for the season, having secured victories against Charleston and Daemen. Their defense has allowed an average of over 13 goals per game while their offense averages just over nine goals per contest. Key offensive players include Katie Coomes with 17 goals and Rachel Black with 16 goals. Allison O'Hanian has been the primary goalkeeper for Walsh, recording 40 saves with a .377 save percentage. Last season, GVSU defeated Walsh 11-3, with Cater making six stops in goal.

To conclude the weekend, GVSU will compete against Ashland who holds a current record of 3-3 for the year. The Eagles have claimed wins over Quincy, Colorado State Pueblo, and Daemen. They have outscored opponents 86-76 across six games and have dominated draw controls by a margin of 112-69. Notable players include Rachel Crumbacher and Tori Wanat who both have double-digit goals and over 40 draw controls each. Annie Duncan has started all four games as goalkeeper for Ashland, accumulating 42 saves with a .378 save percentage. Last season's encounter saw GVSU defeating Ashland convincingly at home by a score of 16-3.
