The Grand Valley State softball team faced a setback on Monday, March 17, with two losses against Tiffin in a doubleheader held in Tiffin, Ohio. The Lakers were defeated 5-0 in both games, bringing their season record to 9-13.
In the first game, Tiffin took an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning. The Dragons extended their advantage with an RBI single and a two-run home run in the fifth inning, concluding the game at 5-0. Madelynn Pope had a strong performance at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a triple and a double. Grace Usher contributed with a double, while Karli Dorr added another hit. Dorr also started as pitcher and recorded eight strikeouts over six innings but suffered the loss with her record now at 3-5.
The second game saw Tiffin once again take control early with two runs in the first inning. They secured their win by adding three more runs in the sixth inning through an RBI triple and a two-run home run, finishing at 5-0. Morgan Spicer achieved her fourth triple of the season, while Elizabeth Wesoloski went 1-for-2 and drew a walk. Nevaeh Ingram and Allyson Theunick each contributed hits as well. Ingram pitched for six innings, allowing five hits and recording six strikeouts but took the loss to bring her record to 4-4.
Looking ahead, GVSU will start conference play this weekend on the road against Roosevelt and Parkside. The Lakers will face Roosevelt in a doubleheader on Friday, March 21st, starting at 3:00 PM ET. They will then travel to Parkside for another doubleheader on Saturday, March 22nd, beginning at 1:00 PM ET. Both games are set to be streamed live on FloSports.
