Grand Valley State softball set to begin GLIAC schedule against Roosevelt and Parkside

The Grand Valley State (GVSU) softball team is preparing to begin their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) schedule this weekend with games against Roosevelt and Parkside. The Lakers will start conference play on Friday, March 21st, with a doubleheader at Roosevelt starting at 3:00 PM ET. Following that, they will travel to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to face Parkside in another doubleheader on Saturday, March 22nd, beginning at 1:00 PM ET.

Currently holding a 9-13 overall record, GVSU is looking to improve after losing both games of a recent doubleheader against Tiffin. The team has a batting average of .256 and a team ERA of 2.78, ranking third in the GLIAC.

Freshman Madelynn Pope leads the Lakers with a .311 batting average, including four triples and two doubles over 22 games. Junior Elizabeth Wesoloski has achieved a .294 average with a team-leading 20 hits and 17 RBIs. Senior Morgan Spicer contributes six doubles and four triples while hitting .288 for the season.

In pitching, freshman Karli Dorr holds the second-best ERA in the GLIAC at 2.07 across nine appearances. She leads GVSU with 50 strikeouts over 50.2 innings pitched. Junior Nevaeh Ingram ranks seventh in the GLIAC with a 2.43 ERA from ten appearances and has completed seven games with a record of 4-4.

Roosevelt enters conference play with a record of 6-12 after going 6-4 during their spring break trip to Florida. They are currently hitting .249 as a team, which places them seventh in the GLIAC standings. Ella Dvoracek leads Roosevelt's offense with a .386 batting average, along with two home runs this season.

Parkside begins their GLIAC schedule holding an even record of 9-9 and will face Purdue Northwest before hosting GVSU. Rylee Baetz leads Parkside’s lineup with a .333 batting average for the season.
