The Grand Valley State women's tennis team began their GLIAC schedule with a decisive 7-0 victory over Roosevelt on Friday evening. This win at home advances the Lakers' record to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
In doubles play, GVSU secured the doubles point by winning all matches. Neus Ramos and Vale Mozas achieved a 6-1 victory at the top doubles position. Rachel Sam and Estefania Hernandez also won 6-1 at No. 2 doubles, while Ipek Sakiroglu and Kalomoira Ralli completed the sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
During singles competition, Vale Mozas triumphed in three sets with scores of 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 at the top singles position. Anna Soteras delivered a strong performance with a straight-set win of 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Ipek Sakiroglu followed suit with a straight-set victory of 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Kalomoira Ralli recorded another dominant result with her straight-set win of 6-1, 6-2 at No.4 singles. Rachel Sam continued the trend with a straightforward win of 6-0, 6-1 at No.5 singles, while Nadia Rodewald added to the team's success by securing a straight-set win of 6-1, 7-5 at No.6 singles.
The Lakers will conclude their opening weekend of GLIAC play on Saturday evening when they face Purdue Northwest at home. The match is scheduled to begin at Premier Athletic and Tennis Club starting at 5:00 PM.
