The Grand Valley State University women's tennis team achieved a 5-2 victory over rival Ferris State on Friday in a road match. This win improves their season record to 9-3 and keeps their GLIAC conference record perfect at 3-0.
Ferris State secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. In the No. 1 doubles match, Neus Ramos and Vale Mozas emerged victorious with a 6-4 win. However, Rachel Sam and Estefania Hernandez experienced a narrow defeat with a score of 4-6 at No. 2 doubles, and Anna Soteras and Ipek Sakiroglu lost 1-6 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Grand Valley State responded assertively. Neus Ramos claimed victory at the top singles spot with scores of 7-5, 7-5. Anna Soteras achieved a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Estefania Hernandez posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. Ipek Sakiroglu bounced back from losing the first set to win 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and Kalomoira Ralli secured a win with scores of 6-3, 7-6 at No. 6 singles. Vale Mozas was defeated 1-6, 2-6 at No. 2 singles.
The Lakers are scheduled to continue their weekend matches on the road against Wayne State. The match is planned for Saturday at 2:00 PM in Detroit, Michigan.
