The Grand Valley State women's tennis team was defeated 5-2 by Wayne State on Saturday afternoon in Detroit. This result brings the Lakers to a season record of 9-4 and a conference record of 3-1 in the GLIAC.
Wayne State secured the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles positions. However, Ipek Sakiroglu and Anna Soteras managed a win with a 7-6 result at No. 3 doubles. In other doubles matches, Neus Ramos and Vale Mozas were defeated 2-6 at the top position, while Rachel Sam and Estefania Hernandez fell 3-6 at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, Estefania Hernandez achieved a three-set victory at the No. 4 position with scores of 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Ipek Sakiroglu also secured a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles with scores of 6-3, 6-1. Neus Ramos experienced a narrow defeat in two sets at the top singles position with scores of 5-7, 4-6, and Vale Mozas was narrowly defeated in a three-set match at No. 2 singles with scores of 3-6, 7-6, 2-6. Anna Soteras lost at No. 3 singles, 6-7, 3-6, and Rachel Sam was defeated in three sets at No. 6 singles with scores of 6-3, 0-6, 7-10.
The Lakers' next match is scheduled for next Saturday against Saginaw Valley State at 1:00 PM. Following that, they will host Lake Superior State on Friday, April 11th at 12:00 PM and Michigan Tech on Saturday, April 12th at 5:00 PM, both at the Premier Athletic and Tennis Club in Grandville, Michigan.
