The Grand Valley State University (GVSU) women's lacrosse team is preparing for two additional games in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) this week. Following two victories on the road, the Lakers will face Davenport University on Wednesday and Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) in a home game on Friday. The Friday match will also include the Morgan's Message dedication game, which aims to support athletes dealing with mental health issues in partnership with the organization.

Last weekend, GVSU won their first GLIAC matches by defeating Concordia-St. Paul 17-10 and achieving a comeback win against Northern Michigan, 12-11, in overtime. The victories bring the Lakers to a 7-3 overall record, maintaining an unbeaten 2-0 in conference play, making them the only GLIAC team without a conference loss. GVSU holds the 19th position in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll as the fourth team in the Midwest.

The Lakers dominated the GLIAC Player of the Week awards for the second week with Ashleigh Rothe receiving offensive honors and Kylie Waeghe getting recognized for her defensive play. Rothe delivered nine goals, four assists, and several other contributions, while Waeghe added to the team's success with numerous key plays during their victories.

Davenport University, entering the matchup at 5-4, has struggled in league play but showed strength in non-conference games at 5-2. Blakely Malpass and Maddy Haynes each scored 22 goals this season, while Zoe Cassell and Rachel Livak have shared time as goalkeepers, achieving a combined 60 saves and a .420 save percentage. GVSU has won all previous 16 encounters against Davenport.

In their inaugural women's lacrosse season, SVSU has yet to win a game, holding a 0-7 record and being significantly outscored. Gabby Parker stands out with 10 goals, and Mikaila Stone defended the net for all 420 minutes, managing 65 saves.
