Grand Rapids, Mich. – Grand Valley State University's (GVSU) women’s lacrosse team secured a decisive 12-3 victory over Davenport after the game's postponement due to weather conditions the previous day. The match took place this afternoon, maintaining GVSU's strong position at the top of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings with an overall record of 8-3.

The first quarter saw a competitive exchange of goals between the two teams. Zoe Ziegler and Ella Boose scored for the Lakers, with Grace Maddox eventually breaking a tie and putting GVSU ahead with 3:23 remaining. Mara Misiurewicz, assisted by Ashleigh Rothe, added to the Lakers’ lead during the second quarter, leaving the halftime score at 4-2.

Ziegler's second goal after the break widened the gap before Davenport responded, making it 5-3. The Lakers' offensive strategy proved effective as Ziegler tallied two more scores, along with contributions from Kendra Swope, resulting in an 8-3 lead by the end of the third quarter.

GVSU maintained pressure in the fourth quarter, shutting out Davenport with additional goals from Swope, Emerson Holthouser, and Gracie Bancroft, who scored twice. Sarah Krause's performance in the final quarter, with four saves, prevented any further scoring by the Panthers.

The defensive efforts were spearheaded by goalkeepers Kaylyn Cater and Krause, who together made 10 saves. Cater's achievement of her 200th career save marks her as the fourth Laker to reach that milestone. Quinn McElroy's three groundballs contributed to the team's defensive efforts, supported by contributions from Kylie Waeghe, Holthouser, Boose, and Rothe.

Zoe Ziegler was the standout player offensively, leading her team with four goals. Swope and Bancroft each scored twice, while Boose, Holthouser, Misiurewicz, and Maddox added one goal each. Rothe assisted twice, with Sandell and Bancroft each assisting once.

The Lakers are scheduled to play again soon, returning to their home field to face off against SVSU tomorrow at noon.
