The Grand Valley State softball team is set to continue its GLIAC play with two doubleheaders over the weekend. The Lakers will first travel to Detroit, Michigan, to face Wayne State on Friday, April 4, at 2:00 PM. Following this, they will host Saginaw Valley State on Sunday, April 6, at 1:00 PM at the GVSU Softball Field.

The Sunday games against Saginaw Valley State were initially planned to be held away, but due to field conditions, they will now be played at GVSU. "SVSU will still be the home team for both games," according to the team’s announcement.

GVSU heads into the weekend with a 15-17 overall record and a 6-4 GLIAC record. Earlier this week, the team was defeated in a doubleheader against Ferris State. As a team, GVSU currently holds a .285 batting average and has scored 142 runs against the 128 conceded.

Leading the team in batting is freshman Madelynn Pope, who boasts a .366 average with seven triples, five doubles, and 18 runs scored. Sophomore Faith Edwards has a .326 average, leading with 22 runs scored and a .450 on-base percentage, alongside a team-best 10 stolen bases. Junior Elizabeth Wesoloski has recorded a .324 average, leading with 34 hits and 21 RBIs.

The Laker pitching staff maintains a 3.09 ERA, ranking second in the GLIAC. Freshman Karli Dorr ranks third in the GLIAC with a 2.55 ERA over 14 appearances, including nine complete games and 81 strikeouts. Junior Nevaeh Ingram has a 2.81 ERA in 15 appearances, having struck out 64 batters and recording 11 complete games.

Live streams of both doubleheaders will be available on FloSports, and fans can follow live updates via the team's Twitter handle, @GVSUSoftball.
