GVSU lacrosse team dominates SVSU with a 25-3 victory

The GVSU women's lacrosse team achieved a decisive victory against Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU), winning 25-3 at a home match in Allendale, Michigan. This win marked their first home triumph of the season, advancing their record to 9-3 and maintaining an undefeated streak in GLIAC play at 3-0.

GVSU took control early, scoring five consecutive goals, with contributions from Ashleigh Rothe, Gracie Bancroft, Kendra Swope, and two from Zoe Ziegler. After a goal from SVSU, the Lakers continued their dominance, ending the first quarter with a 9-1 lead. Early in the second quarter, Ziegler completed a hat trick, and Bancroft added two more goals. SVSU managed a second goal, but the half ended with a strong Lakers lead, 13-2, after Ella Boose scored just before halftime.

The third quarter saw GVSU outscore SVSU 6-0, led by three goals from Rothe, two from Ziegler, and one from Swope, increasing their advantage to 19-2. In the final quarter, SVSU managed one final goal, but the Lakers responded with continued scoring, including Rothe's seventh goal, marking a career-high and her 100th career goal. Additional goals from Boose, Emerson Holthouser, and Ella Manfred, who scored her first career goal, concluded the game.

Rothe's performance stood out with seven goals, two assists, and several defensive contributions. Ziegler, Bancroft, and Boose also delivered strong performances, with significant scoring and assists. The defense limited SVSU to just five shots on net, with goalkeepers Kaylyn Cater and Sarah Krause each making one save.

Next, the Lakers will stay at home for matches against Northern Michigan and Concordia-St. Paul.
