The Grand Valley State University women's tennis team secured a 5-2 victory against Saginaw Valley State University during an away match on Saturday. The Lakers have now improved their season record to 10-4 and hold a 4-1 record in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).
The team began strongly by winning all the doubles matches. Neus Ramos and Vale Mozas earned a 6-3 win at the top doubles slot. Rachel Sam and Estefania Hernandez followed with a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 doubles position, while Ipek Sakiroglu and Kalomoira Ralli secured a 7-4 win in the No. 3 doubles match.
In the singles competitions, Vale Mozas achieved a 6-1, 7-6 win at the No. 2 singles position. Estefania Hernandez completed a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, while Ipek Sakiroglu won 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles match. Kalomoira Ralli also contributed with a 6-1, 6-4 win in the No. 6 singles match. However, Neus Ramos faced a setback with a 2-6, 3-6 defeat in the top singles position, and Anna Soteras was beaten 4-6, 3-6 at No. 3 singles.
GVSU's women's tennis team will return to their home court next weekend to play two GLIAC matches. They will compete against Lake Superior State University on Friday, April 11, and Michigan Technological University on Saturday, April 12, with both matches starting at 2 PM at the GVSU Tennis Courts.
