Grand Valley State faces loss in doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State

The Grand Valley State softball team encountered a challenging doubleheader against Saginaw Valley State, losing both games 4-2 and 6-2. This leaves the Lakers with a season record of 16-20 and 7-7 in the GLIAC standings.

In the first game, Carsyn Segorski put the Lakers ahead with a solo home run in the third inning. However, Saginaw Valley scored four runs in the fifth, featuring a two-run double and a two-run home run. Grand Valley State added a late run in the seventh, driven by Allyson Theunick's RBI single.

Eliana Eiland and Morgan Spicer recorded two hits each, with Karli Dorr also adding to the score sheet. Segorski and Theunick contributed with RBIs. Pitcher Nevaeh Ingram handled all six innings, allowing four runs while striking out three.

In game two, Saginaw Valley established a strong lead with five runs by the end of the fourth inning. The Lakers responded with a run in the fourth on Madelynn Pope's RBI single. Saginaw Valley added a run in the fifth, while the Lakers managed another in the seventh inning.

Madelynn Pope produced two RBIs, and Karli Dorr went 2-3 with a run scored. Elizabeth Wesoloski and Morgan Spicer added hits and runs. Dorr pitched five innings, allowing six runs with five strikeouts. Kylie Swierkos pitched one scoreless inning in relief, striking out two.

Looking ahead, GVSU is set to face Purdue Northwest on Wednesday, April 9, in a GLIAC doubleheader. The first game begins at 2:00 PM in Hammond, Indiana, with both games available for live streaming on FloSports.
